Sometimes, when you have to write an application or para sample you haven’t got a clue what to write about. So, here’s a few writing prompts that will hopefully help you.
Below the read-more, you’ll find HD Youtube videos that you can use for your RP’s as sidebar graphics. The videos meet the criteria of TEENAGE ADVERSITY; meaning troubled teens, and things along the lines of that. And before you go watching the videos, I have to include a TRIGGER WARNING. This is for roleplaying purposes only, but some of these videos do deal with some serious aspects such as suicide and self-harm, which can be triggering to some, so be wary. I marked the trigger warning worthy videos with a *. Keep in mind, these are suggestions, but I feel that all of the videos below have some snippets that could definitely be used for “teen adversity” type roleplays.

List of choices and stressors for your role play
So, I just finished watching Choose. Katheryn Winnick’s the main character in the film, so I had to watch it. (For those who don’t know, she’s Lagertha on Vikings) It made me realize that it’s similar to two movies I’ve watched recently: Cube and House of 9. Here are the synopsis of the films:
- Choose: A journalism student tracks a killer with the help of her detective father and a therapist. (IMDB) (YouTube trailer)
- Cube: 7 complete strangers of widely varying personality characteristics are involuntarily placed in an endless kafkaesque maze containing deadly traps. (IMDB) (YouTube trailer)
- House of 9: Nine strangers, with no apparent connection between them are abducted: drugged, kidnapped and sealed in a house together. (IMDB) (YouTube trailer)
What do they have in common? Their plot and conflict is based on choice. All of these films put characters into stressful and frightening situations and they have to make choices. Those choices define them.
I’ve been trying to think about how I create a cast of character and make each of them unique and wasn’t able to put a name on it until now. This is it. You can tell a lot about someone by the choices they make and how they act in situation, especially ones that plays with their mind.
How can you implement this in your role play? Create characters by their choices. But don’t stop there. Put them into situations where choices and reactions have to be made. You’ll get both character development and plot progression by doing this. This is what admins mean when they say they say they want “in-character drama”.
